How does Oreon Lime R2 stack up, when Compared with Other Linux Distros?
Oreon Lime R2 Linux is said to be designed for the new to Linux user who is seeking stability and security. Oreon offers two Desktop Distributions based on AlmaLinux. Oreon Lime R2 is being offered as a beginners OS, but it also offers a Security and Stability focus, with support being offered until 2032. So today, I explore this OS and put it to the test. Oreon has options for preinstalling Docker, Flatpaks and a user interface which is based on GNOME, but looks a little more like WIndows 7.

Welp .... So much for keeping my 1st gen Base Microsoft Surface Go around any longer. It's not compatible with 11. I only used it for browsing the web and watching UA-cam, and had already made the switch to Apple in 2020 with the M1 Mac Mini. The only times I have used my Surface for anything, is keeping it updated once a month. Other than that,I never use it anymore. Looks like I'm wiping my Surface Go and either donating it, or recycling it.

My computers and my budget are so old, and I think Microsoft is becoming another "rich man's and woman's" operating system, being another Apple company. Linux Mint is what my computers is going to be installed soon. Not worth owning Windows 11 if they require annual subscriptions.

What is the full truth is that to have Windows 11 Microsoft want you to buy a brand new PC. They came up with Windows 11, knowing full well that the majority of Pc owned by people where not suitable for their new system. So why Microsoft did not give new Pc to people in view to use their system ? Windows 11 became a free update so a matching Pc must be free also, right ?

i keep hearing what unix was better than linux, could you explain how exactly they are different? for example in other video about unix philosophy your told (if i remember correctly) what binary logs in linux (systemd) is wrong, because they didnt allow use them with other tools, and this is part of unix way - use composition of small simple tools to make complex thing, and systemd in general too big, too complex and too tight coupled for unix way. thats all or may be there is something else? bloated linux kernel?)

5:15 Who is DJ Ware's source for the following: (displayed as text) *Linux 6.6.30 is last longterm* (spoken) "Leave a comment below-what your plans are-because, uh, the Linux kernel folks, after a certain version, -are all- are not doing long-term support releases of the kernel anymore." I have found no information which confirms his statements. I've only found that there will be fewer LTS versions, going forward. And that the length of support for LTS versions has shortened; from 5-6 years to 2-3 years. Where is the source of DJ Ware's statements?

For one thing, the claim that anyone can make a secure computer system is false. Every grammar system, that ever was or will be, is effected by binary recursion, which means, relation to self is inadmissible, i.e., binary can always crack binary. The intelligent thing to do, is what I have always done. I run my working computers, completely isolated from the internet and from Micky softs criminal intrusion into my private life. I was one of the original beta testers for Windows Multimedia platform and it became very clear that Microsoft was only self-interseted and I quit them. I use a cheap computer to interface with the internet, and I do not keep any personal information on it. If it gets infected, I simply wipe and reinstall. You cannot give a machine intelligence, especially since, every possible system of grammar, of information processing is, as Plato noted, dialectical, or called today, binary. Binary cannot protect itself from itself. If people are too stupid to think a computer can protect them, they are really stupid. Asking a machine to grow a brain for you is completely absurd. I post my finished work, for world wide download, on the Internet Archive, Phil8659 Archive.org. I have no sympathy for people who have nothing better to do than play at thinking. Nor do I have any respect for people who claim that binary recursion performed by this or that operating system is different, from binary recursion in another. binary is binary, and holding your tongue this way or that, rubbing your belly, does not make any machine more secure than another.

Apple does it and so does Google with their OS’s, eventually all hardware won’t get updates or support. Hell even my tv doesn’t get updates anymore. Seems pointless worrying about it, just get the free upgrade or update your hardware if it won’t update. We change cars, phones, etc, just a part of living.

After trying Linux on and off for 20yrs, the Linux desktop has really come unto it's own in the last few years and is now extremely usable. I predominantly moved over to Linux a few years back, but still dual boot as I need Windows for a couple of things on occasions. Personally, I think it's more important to pick a desktop environment you're going to be comfortable with. Don't worry too much about the actual distro, just find one that has a version of the desktop environment you're comfortable with. A lot of distros are all fairly similar underneath.

October 14th 2025 will it be the day the tips are significantly more full of e-waste? Somewhat, but I think there's a lot of bargains to be had ATM with second hand PCs with Gen 8 and below CPUs (which I still have plenty of for projects). Personally my exit plan was formulated 2yrs ago and I've been happily using Linux for 90% of the time. I just dual boot when I need to use Windows (which isn't very often). Even on newer hardware Linux seems to run better than Windows. There's also another option if you want to stay on Windows 10 and that's installing the LTSC version. Support up until 2032. BTW Once EOL for Windows happens - "No patches, no more bug fixes, no support".....no more introduced bugs either and most regular users don't use MS support anyway.

I really appreciate this particular episode. I've been using LVM for several years and come to rely on it heavily. I give logical volumes to all of my guests (virtual machines). When possible, those virtual disks are unpartitioned, so I can mount the LV on the host and fix a broken guest. VERY HANDY. I usually feed entire physical volumes (unpartitioned) to LVM as PVs. Where boot tools like GRUB have heartburn over LVM, I put /boot on other media, like a USB flash drive. Works.

Already can't call for support. Several years ago I had a problem that was pretty basic, I was just used to working with other operating systems at the time. They wanted to bill me $117/hour, billable by the half hour, before they told me what to do about it. I declined, and about five minutes later it occurred to me and it took less than 30 seconds to fix it. With all the problems already, both security-wise and legally, I am never going to update to Windows 11 unless I have exhausted all other possibilities. Microsoft are tyrants, and they're incompetent on top of that.

Windows XP and 7 still work just fine offline. I just helped a friend with closing out a small business that was still running XP because they had a significant investment in software and was not about to spend several thousand on "new and improved" software... they had a modern Windows 11 laptop for doing a few things they had to do online but for the most part XP still works great for their purpose. Small business owners are very reluctant to try Linux because it's too big of a change to them and they can't use the same software they're used to.
